Evan Matthews is a director, writer, and producer whose feature debut, Motherland (2025), starring Tony winner Miriam Silverman and Emmy winners Holland Taylor and Nestor Carbonell, was acquired by Vertical Entertainment after a festival run that included multiple Best Picture and Best Director awards. It later reached theaters and streaming.
He holds a BA in Film Theory and Critical Studies and an MFA in Screenwriting and Directing from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. His thesis short Recoil (2015) played 50 festivals and won 10 awards. The Teleios Act (2019) took Best Director, Audience Choice, and Best Short Film.
Matthews interned for Mike Medavoy at Phoenix Pictures, including research on David Fincher’s Zodiac, and worked with Mark Burnett on Survivor, The Apprentice, Shark Tank, and the MTV Movie Awards. Other credits include An Inconvenient Truth, The Hollow, InSight, Esquire, and Harper’s Bazaar. He co-wrote The New Manna (2027) and is developing his next feature, The Third Day.
