Biography

Named the band Third World as a way of representing their origins in the Caribbean and identifying themselves as being part of a global movement of developing nations, particularly in Africa and Latin America, which were non-aligned during the Cold War.

Founded by Stephen 'Cat' Coore and Michael 'Ibo' Cooper in 1973 after leaving another reggae band Inner Circle.

Noted for fusing reggae with other musical genres which at times has received criticisms from reggae purists yet they remain defiant for to them it is the message rather than the musical genre that matters.

Members Stephen 'Cat' Coore, Irvin 'Carrot' Jarrett, Michael 'Ibo' Cooper and Bunny 'Rugs' Clarke would pass on leaving William 'Willie' Stewart and Richard 'Richie' Daley as the surviving members of the classic line-up.

Despite changes in the band's line-up, Stephen 'Cat' Coore and Richard 'Richie' Daley would be constant members until Coore's death in 2026.
