Jennifer Julian

Biography

  • Jennifer Julian is an award-winning Montana-born writer, producer, artist, and educator. Focused on shifting perspectives and sparking imagination, she is at the helm of developing formidable female-driven content with her boutique production company, June Bug Pictures. June Bug strives to shine a light on forgotten and underrepresented historical-based heroines as well as introduce fictional tales highlighting remarkable women, both in front of and behind the footlights. The company's first feature, Diamondback, co-written and produced by Julian is a redemptive, revenge Western that follows Meridey "Dey" Freeman, on a mission to avenge her father's death by taking down the outlaws who killed him. As a screenwriter, Julian has been nominated for the Academy Nicholl Fellowship, a finalist at both the Page International Screenwriting Awards and LA Femme's 11th Annual International Film Festival and winner of the Creative World Awards and Table Read My Screenplay competition. She is also an unprecedented, two-time winner of the American Film Market's Pitch Conference Contest.

Julian holds a Master of Arts degree in Cultural Studies (emphasis on Feminist and Gender Studies & Media Studies) from Claremont Graduate University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies and Theatre for Social Change from Pitzer College. As an educator and cultural ambassador for the U.S., Julian was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to the Slovak Republic where she researched and produced, Behind the Velvet Curtain, a documentary short exploring feminist arts education in a post-Communist landscape. While there, she was also invited by the German Fulbright Commission to travel to Berlin and present excerpts from Falling in Love Again, an original multi-media musical work Julian created and performed chronicling the life of German cabaret star and Hollywood film icon, Marlene Dietrich. While in Slovakia, Julian met her now husband, Steven Bell, with whom she shares a daughter, Lily. They split their time between Los Angeles, Montana and Scotland.
