Biography

Moniere

Overview

  • Born
    1974 · Kandahar, Afghanistan

Mini bio

  • Monière and his family fled the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1980 and settled in Karachi, Pakistan. He, his six siblings, mother, and grandparents stayed behind for two years while his brother and father left for Brooklyn, New York. Once he immigrated to Brooklyn, from an early age, he found his purpose in life; film, cinema and story-telling.

The success of his first feature film "Dissonance", award-winning shorts, and videos with Eastern themes and plots set in the West, confirmed his vision as a unique filmmaker with a purpose as well as a top Afghan-American filmmaker.

"Soul To Keep" played at well-known festivals, rented on Netflix. It was well received by critics, "the final act was one of the most satisfying things I've seen in a while. I urge everyone to give this film a try." - Morbidly Beautiful - "Labeling this one as a 'classic' and "The Evil Dead" meets "Night of the Demons" probably gives you the idea that you know how Soul to Keep is going to play out. Wrong." - Horror Society.

Lastly, his globally acclaimed documentaries on the mind, body, and spirit gained him admiration and respect for the work he contributed to the field. He traveled to remote regions worldwide, documenting scientists, healers, gurus, Sufis, and complete strangers to create a series called "Zen Nation".

Monière completed his Bachelor's Degree in media studies, theater arts and psychology at the State University of New York-New Paltz, graduating with honors. He further pursued his Master's degree in film studies and psychoanalytic theories at CUNY Hunter and The New School.
