Kelly Turner is a Los Angeles-based writer, producer, and award-winning entertainment marketer. She honed her storytelling instincts and filmmaking craft, producing trailers and creative-directing key art for over 300 feature films and television series.
Kelly is the writer, director, and producer of several documentaries, including Tell It Slant, a multi-layered love letter to Los Angeles (Executive Producer: Sam Pollard); Black Girl Prep, exploring the experience of Black girls at elite prep schools; and Bricktop, chronicling the global life of Ada "Bricktop" Smith, who ran the hottest nightclub in 1930s Paris. She also created Preparatory, a YA thriller inspired by real events and her own experience at a prestigious New England boarding school.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Kelly holds a business degree from USC and began her career in marketing at Trimark and Universal Pictures. In 2002, she co-founded Vurv Inc.-the first and only full-service creative advertising agency in the entertainment industry owned and operated by women of color.
She is a Social Impact Writing Lab Fellow, a WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Semi-Finalist, a Film Independent Fellow, and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
