Simon Baumann is a Swiss filmmaker. In his documentaries, he explores socio-political issues from a personal perspective. His film Wir Erben (We, the Inheritors) about the moral contradiction between property and justice won the Swiss Film Award for Best Documentary in 2025, the main prize in the DOK.deutsch competition at DOK.fest Munich, and the Grand Prix Semaine de la critique - Prix SRG SSR at the Locarno Film Festival in 2024.
Baumann made his first films together with Andreas Pfiffner. His early works include Switzerland's first web-based documentary series, Hope Music (2007), and the multi-award-winning short film Emozioniere (2009). The satirical cinema documentary Image Problem premiered in 2012 in the international competition at the Locarno Film Festival. In 2010, Baumann began working with filmmaker Dieter Fahrer, who produced Zum Beispiel Suberg and later Wir Erben. Baumann won the first CH-Dokfilm competition of the Migros Culture Percentage in 2010 with the screenplay for the documentary Zum Beispiel Suberg. Baumann was the producer of Mischa Hedinger's documentary African Mirror (2019), which premiered at the Berlinale Forum and was nominated for a Swiss Film Award.
