Jim Bessman was born on July 19, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He died on June 22, 2021 in Manhattan, New York, USA.

Freelance contributor to Billboard magazine.

Freelanced for Variety while living in Wisconsin before he relocated to New York to work for the music trade publication Cashbox.

Wrote two books, "The Ramones - An American Band" and "John Mellencamp - The Concert At Walter Reed".

For 20 years until his death he worked with the Songwriters Hall of Fame where he handled the backstage archival interviews at the annual gala.

Raised in Madison, Wisconsin with his brother and sister.
