Biography

Jason Fine is the Editor of Rolling Stone, the leading voice of music and popular culture. In his role, he is in charge of all content, editorial strategy and operations, and manages a large staff of editors, writers, designers and producers. Currently, Rolling Stone reaches more than 60 million people per month in print and online, and Fine has overseen growth and innovation on both platforms. He has developed initiatives in short- and long-form video and branded content; a successful franchise of special-interest-publications (SIPs) on Rolling Stone-themed subjects, as well as creating branded documentary television and film projects.

Fine was also editorial director of Men's Journal until July 2017, when the brand was sold to another publisher.

Since he came to Rolling Stone as an associate editor in 1997, Fine has written extensively about music, travel and adventure - including definitive interviews with Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson. His 2010 article on Haggard was chosen for the Best Music Writing Anthology and many stories that he edited while at Rolling Stone and Men's Journal have received ASME awards and nominations, the industry's top honor. He has also edited Rolling Stone books on Cash, George Harrison and Michael Jackson.

Before joining Rolling Stone as associate editor in 1997, Fine was editor in chief of Los Angeles-based magazine Option and culture editor of San Francisco Bay Guardian, as well as a writer covering music, politics and pop culture for publications including the San Francisco Chronicle , the San Jose Mercury News , Spin , Travel + Leisure , and the East Bay Express .

He has appeared in the media frequently to showcase his expertise in music and pop culture, and has been featured in documentary films on Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Brian Wilson and others.

Additionally, he was named one of min's Most Intriguing People of 2015.

He attended U.C. Berkeley, where he received a B.A. in 1989 and an M.A. in 1991.
