- Sandy is a Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti and Bundjalung Custodian and an award-winning actor, writer and emerging producer/director.
Sandy was raised on Bowraville mission on her ancestral homelands by her mother, a stolen generation survivor. Sandy was the first person in her family to graduate from university earning a First-Class Honours Degree in Theatre in 2002.
Since graduating, Sandy has performed in leading roles with many of Australia's leading theatre companies, including Belvoir St Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre, State Theatre Company of SA, ILBIJERRI Theatre Co and Griffin Theatre Company.
Sandy founded Jinda Productions in 2019, a production company committed to telling stories from a female First Nations perspective. Her first production, a one woman show titled "Matriarch", written, produced and performed by Sandy, was nominated for a prestigious 2019 Green Room Award for Best Writing and won the Award for Best Performer in Independent Theatre. Sandy produced the QPAC season of Matriarch in Brisbane and has a publishing contract with Echo Publishing/ Bonnier Books UK to adapt Matriarch into an intergenerational Memoir.
In 2020, Sandy became the first Indigenous woman in history to litigate against NSW Forestry Corporation over the protection of Gumbaynggirr sacred sites, achieving the first stop work order in 25 years. Sandy led two highly successful national campaigns to protect Nambucca State Forest and Newry State Forest from industrial logging between 2020-2024 bringing an historic permanent halt to logging in both forests. Sandy is the recipient of the 2024 NSW Environment Award for outstanding commitment and success in Nature Conservation.
In 2024, Sandy produced and directed the environmental documentary film "Ngurra Muruy" (Forest Camp) which has been licensed by National Indigenous Television/ SBS OnDemand to broadcast from 2025-2027.
