Caíto Ortiz is a Brazilian filmmaker with a knack for telling stories that make you laugh, cry, and sometimes wish you could step into the screen and punch somebody. His work has been called dynamic, which is a fancy way of saying his camera doesn't sit still much, and has earned comparisons to Guy Ritchie-though Caito probably wishes people would stop saying that. Recently, he directed and executive produced Anderson "Spider" Silva, a miniseries about a kid who went from being just another hungry boy in Brazil to punching his way into history as a UFC champion. The series even got an International Emmy nod, which is nice if you're into statues.

Back in 2016, Caíto made a little movie called Jules and Dolores that premiered at SXSW. It was about a heist that didn't go quite as planned (do they ever?) and somehow ended up winning a Vision Festival Jury Award. Netflix picked it up, which means millions of people had the chance to enjoy it while eating snacks and ignoring their laundry.

Not one to rest, Caíto also took viewers back to 1950s Rio de Janeiro with Coisa Mais Linda (Girls from Ipanema), a Netflix series about a woman abandoned by her husband. Instead of crying into her caipirinha, she decides to open a bossa nova jazz club because, as it turns out, music fixes everything. The show also features an inspiring group of friends who remind us that sometimes, the best family is the one you make.

Through it all, Caíto's stories are bursting with humanity, humor, and just enough chaos to keep you hooked. Whether it's a stolen trophy, a jazz club, or a UFC champion's legacy, he's the guy who knows how to make life's wild messes feel like art.
