Biography

Derick Thomas (a.k.a Derick Prince) an American film producer/director is a native Baltimorean, armed with a master's degree in Communication Studies from Morgan State University; and studied at NYU Tish film school. Thomas worked as a news videographer-journalist, then later opened his own production company in 2001 with an eye on Hollywood. His first feature film, Charm City, the nationally successful title in 2006 won UMFF Best Feature Film. Derick Thomas attributes growing up in Baltimore city for much of the movie's success. The film would later on be picked up by Netflix. Thomas has gone on to Director other titles such as The Heroin King of Baltimore, a documentary film about Melvin William's heroin czar of Baltimore city during the early 80's. His life story was made famous by HBO's The Wire series. Thomas also co-wrote 4 Life and urban drama starring Wood Harris and Elise Neale. In 2012, Thomas completed his urban trilogy with Raising Wolves 2012 UMFF "Best Gritty Feature Film" winner, an urban drama about the lost generation of teenage boys struggling to find manhood on the streets of Baltimore. Thomas followed up with Betrayals in 2018, where he highlighted the internal struggles of pro-athletes after their professional careers have ended. Thomas has also entered the sci-fi genre with Time Device, a unique thriller about a main who finds a time device and goes back in time to a dinner party to win the love of his life, his best friend's wife. All the Thomas' films can be found in various venues such as Apple TV, Vudu, Netflix, Tubi, Pluto, Xumo, Plex, Prime and many others.
