Dave Bishop is an accomplished British film executive and producer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Protagonist Pictures, a premier London-based international sales, finance, and production company. With over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Bishop is widely recognized for his expertise in navigating international distribution, expanding film finance structures, and championing auteur-driven independent cinema.
Bishop began his career working in senior distribution and acquisitions roles at Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he spent more than ten years honing his corporate and entertainment acumen. He subsequently transitioned to the independent sector, serving as the Head of Acquisitions for the UK distribution outfit Revolver Entertainment. In 2012, Bishop joined Protagonist Pictures as Director of Sales, before quickly being elevated to Head of Worldwide Acquisitions.
In July 2017, Bishop was officially promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Protagonist Pictures, succeeding outgoing executive Mike Goodridge. Under his strategic leadership, the company significantly diversified its business model, moving aggressively beyond traditional international sales and into in-house development, full film financing, and production. During his tenure as CEO, Bishop has overseen the global packaging and distribution of numerous critically acclaimed and award-winning films, including Yorgos Lanthimos's The Lobster (2015), Joanna Hogg's The Souvenir (2019), Brandon Cronenberg's Possessor (2020), and Brady Corbet's Oscar-nominated The Brutalist (2024).
