Biography

Irene Blei is an independent filmmaker, teacher and researcher, specialized in doing animation. Founder of pioneering audiovisual techniques art school for kids and youths Taller de Cine "El Mate", and its director 1987-2015. Expert in organization and development of collective film projects like feature film Horacio Quiroga, Storyteller (2017), and films like 25 años brindando con El Mate (2012), Canciones Patrias (2007), Descubrir el cine (2006), Tenemos Derechos (1997), among others. Formerly Professor at University of Buenos Aires and other educational centers, now Professor at Universidad Nacional Scalabrini Ortiz. Author of a book and many articles about animation, teaching and creation. Blei's recent animation shorts, El árbol ya fue plantado (2020), A Letter from Leticia (2017), En boca de todas (2018) have been backed with many awards. She is an active member of organizations and collectives oriented to Culture, Childhood, Art and Women's Participation, like RAMA and ¡VIVA EL CINE!
