Biography

Judith Louis-Jacques

Overview

  • Born
    1979 · Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Biography

  • Judith Louis-Jacques was born in Montreal. She had what she considered a unique chance to live for eight years in her parent's native country, Haiti.

Back in Montreal in '88, she fully embraced the North American way of life, but kept what she witnessed in Port-Au-Prince in her thoughts.

Media Access is a often deprived right to so many people, that's what made her pursue a career in Journalism and Photojournalism, also, as a commitment for freedom of speech and free press with organizations such as Reporters without Borders.

Her artistic sense was first expressed with photography at Dawson College in 2002. Then, Judith took a professional radio and television class at Montreal's Promedia in 2004. That's where she met who would become her future friend and co-host, Naiby Jacques.

After Promedia, she started as a collaborator on CIBL (Radio-Montreal) 101.5fm working on a show on media called La Presse Dans Tous Ses États or The Press in all Its State. She anchored and hosted a weekly segment about Reporters Without Borders activities and the denunciation of the censorship of the press globally.

In Spring 2005, Naïby Jacques & Judith Louis-Jacques created & proposed a R&B show to CIBL to fill the gap and need of a show that would give exposure to the growing numbers of up-and-rising talents, a show that would give voice to, both, Francophone & Anglophone artists on the Canadian Scene.

Urbana first aired on June 18th 2005. Since then, the show has showcased R&B, Soul, Funk and Jazz artists from the local and international scene. Amongst others, the show broadcasted from the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2006 and other events; produced interviews live and off-the-air, organized radio contests and, have informed Montrealers of what's hype and happening in the community.

After working on Ronny & Cindy in All of Us as Second Assistant Director, Judith has some documentary and news magazine for television projects. A book on her photographs is in project.
