Biography

Alfredo Prior was born in 1952 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He died on December 24, 2024 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In 1987, he obtained the Prize of the Argentine Association of Art Critics, and in 1988, the Second Prize of the Fortabat Prize.

In 1971, he entered the Literature degree at the University of Buenos Aires, which reflects his interest in exploring multiple artistic disciplines.

In 1995, he was awarded the Jorge Romero Brest Prize, and in 2002, he received the Antorchas Scholarship. In 2016, he won the First Prize in the IX National Painting Award of the Central Bank, and in 2017, the Second Prize of the National Painting Salon. In addition, he received the National Award for Artistic Career 2020/21 from the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Prior held his first solo exhibition in 1970 at the historic Lirolay Gallery, marking the beginning of a career that spanned more than five decades, including solo exhibitions, innovative performances, literary publications and recognition's that consolidated his figure as a key in contemporary art.
