Anthony Maras is an Australian filmmaker known for his work in short films and feature cinema. He began his directing career with Azadi (2005), a short film about Afghan refugees held in Australian detention centers, which won an AACTA Award for Best Short Fiction Film. His next short, Spike Up (2007), also received the same award. Maras later directed The Palace (2011), a drama set against the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and won multiple international awards, including AACTA Awards for Best Short Fiction Film and Best Screenplay in a Short Film. He also worked as an associate producer on Last Ride (2009), directed by Glendyn Ivin. Maras made his feature directing debut with Hotel Mumbai (2018), a drama inspired by the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and starring Dev Patel and Armie Hammer. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received its international theatrical release in 2019.
