Biography

Born in 1994, Carlie Nettles began talking and acting at the same time. By age two she performed her favorite videos for family, giving each character its own voice, filling in background sounds and music. It took some time for her to go public, but by age 7 she played the role of Violet Beauregard in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory followed by Peter in Peter Pan and many others. In 2009, Carlie made her professional stage debut playing the role of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker at The Matrix Theatre in Hollywood, California. The show was held over for an additional run at The Edgemar Theatre in Santa Monica. Carlie received glowing reviews in LA Weekly, LA Splash, SoCalWeekly, Backstage West and more for her portrayal of Helen. She also won the award for 2008-2009 Best Performance by a Featured Actress from Stage Scene LA. Also in 2009, Carlie was directed by Academy Award winning director, Paul Mazursky in a benefit performance of Sin: A Cardinal Deposed at the Hayworth Theatre in Hollywood.

Carlie's first love was films. Even today, if she's not making one, it seems she's watching one. She shot her first film at age 8, playing a child with an absentee dad and an imaginary friend. Since then, she has played a ghost with a grudge, a conniving orphan, a super hero, a demon, and a mad scientist among many others. In 2007, she made her first YouTube appearance in "My Name is Lisa" which won the YouTube Best Short Film of 2007 and has over 3 million views. It was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2008. Through her work at the Florida State University Film School, Carlie has appeared in 2 Academy Award winning films and 2 which won awards from the Directors Guild of America. Mr. John D'Arco, one of Carlie's favorite directors describes her as having the ability to portray both innocence and irreverence at the same time.

Carlie's ambition to make her career in Hollywood gets ever closer to becoming a reality. In fall 2006, with the encouragement of her friend and mentor, John D'Aquino, Carlie traveled to Los Angeles where she has since appeared in the feature film, Poker Run (aired on ShowTime) and made a guest appearance on the CW Network's Everybody Hates Chris. In May of 2009, Carlie shot her first national television commercial, appearing as "The Texting Girl" in a Geico commercial with Kash.

Carlie has played a wide variety of characters, in both comedy and drama, and is quick to learn accents and memorize dialog. In her spare time, she enjoys working in her garden, horseback riding, hiking, and her many, many pets. Her second passion is animals - even the crawly ones. As her 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Sweeney put it, "Carlie can't seem to make it to the cafeteria without catching something." Perhaps Jeff Corwin should watch out!
