Biography

Born in Iloilo and based in Manila, Philippines, Perry Escaño is a veteran actor, writer, director, and producer whose career spans television, film, professional theater, music, and live events. With decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Perry has established himself as a versatile and disciplined artist, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

He began sharpening his craft through formal and intensive training. Perry attended a professional theater acting workshop facilitated by Bodjie Pascua at the Bulwagang Gantimpala Theater, where he developed a strong foundation in stage performance. He later received advanced and intensive acting training for television and film under renowned actress and director Gina Alajar at the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund), further refining his screen acting skills.

Throughout his career, Perry has appeared in more than one hundred television shows and has acted in over thirty films and professional stage productions, making him one of the most consistently working character actors of his generation. His performances have reached both local and international audiences and have earned critical recognition. In 2014, he was nominated for Best Actor at the Queens International Film Festival for his role in TNT.

His filmography includes participation in several internationally recognized films. He appeared in Baliw, directed by Redd Ochoa, which was a special selection at the 2007 World Film Festival in Montreal, Canada. He was also part of Brillante Mendoza’s Captive, which became a finalist at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival, and appeared in Thelma, directed by Paul Soriano, which won the Bronze Palm Award at the 2012 Mexico International Film Festival.

While Perry is widely known for his work as an actor in film and television, his creative contributions extend far beyond acting. He is also an accomplished writer, director, and producer, actively involved in the production side of film, theater, music, and live events. He wrote and directed Ang Guro Kong ’Di Marunong Magbasa (My Teacher Who Doesn’t Know How to Read), which became a finalist in the 2017 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival Main Competition. He also wrote and directed the family-oriented comedy Ang Sikreto ng Piso, which was commercially released nationwide in Philippine cinemas. His adventure and mystery film Caught in the Act holds a significant place in Philippine cinema history as the first film commercially released nationwide after the pandemic in 2020, marking a symbolic return of local films to theaters.

Earlier in his directing career, Perry wrote and directed Alibi, which placed 1st Runner-Up in the Most Popular Film Competition at the International Film Festival Manhattan in New York City in 2012. He later directed Overture, which was an official selection at the 2013 International Film Festival Manhattan. As a screenwriter, he wrote Tama (Deranged), which was an official selection at the 2011 Gawad CCP Film Festival.

Expanding his creative work into music and live entertainment, Perry has also written and directed music videos released under Star Music platforms, collaborating with recording artists to translate musical narratives into compelling visual stories. In addition, he has worked extensively as a writer and director for live events, contributing to concerts, stage productions, and special performances that blend cinematic storytelling with live audience engagement.

Most recently, Perry wrote and directed Ang Platinong Buhok (The Platinum Hair), a documentary film that chronicles the life and legacy of late theater thespian Ama Quiambao, paying tribute to her immense contribution to Philippine theater and cinema. Outside the arts, Perry holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Lyceum University of Manila, reflecting his strong technical background and analytical discipline. He is also the founder and Executive Producer of Singkuwento Internasyonal, a touring short film exhibition that showcases independent films and continues to travel across various cities, bringing Filipino stories to wider and more diverse audiences.
