Lauand Omar is an international writer, director, and producer with over 20 years of experience across feature films, television, streaming platforms, and short-form content. His work moves fluidly between genre storytelling and human drama, often exploring themes of identity, displacement, power, and resilience within multicultural and multilingual contexts. Working across Europe, the Middle East, and North America, Omar is known for developing original IP and leading complex international productions with a strong artistic vision and clear commercial awareness. His storytelling bridges auteur sensibility and audience-driven narrative, grounded in authenticity and emotional precision. In 2005, he wrote, directed and produced his first feature film, "Bekhal's Tears", a women's rights drama shot in Iraqi Kurdistan. The film broke barriers, becoming the first Kurdish film ever selected at an Arabic film festival, premiering at the 2006 Emirates Film Competition in Abu Dhabi. By 2007/2008, Lauand was producing high-rated reality shows in the UAE for major brands like Samsung and Clean & Clear before joining MTV Arabia as a producer. In 2012, he co-created "Aassas" a supernatural comedy set in Morocco, which made history as the first TV series from the region to secure a development deal with Gaumont France. The show was later adapted for the Algerian market as "Al Khamsa" in 2014, backed by telecom giant Ooredoo. His feature film Curse of Mesopotamia reached #1 at the Iraqi box office, received international festival recognition, and was covered by BBC World, Al Jazeera, and Paris Match. His work continues to travel globally through streaming platforms including Amazon Prime and Tubi. In addition to his directing work, Omar founded LOMAR Casting, an international casting agency based in Casablanca, where he cast talent for major studio productions-an experience that deeply informs his actor-centered approach to directing. Native in English, German, Spanish, and Arabic, Lauand Omar brings a rare linguistic and cultural fluency to his projects. He is currently developing new feature films and high-end series for European and international markets.
