Biography

Born to John and Hattie Carter in Birmingham Alabama. John was the third child and only son. He was always active in school, playing in many school plays and sports. From fourth grade to his senior year in high school, (Carol W. Hayes), he played and started on the basketball teams and football teams. He earned several scholarships in football, but opted to enlist in the Marines. In the Marines he earned two meritorious promotions and was in consideration for duty at 8th and I in Washington D.C to be communications operator on HMX-1 (Presidents helicopter). His Marine career was cut short by an injury after ten years of service. In the Marines he was awarded several honors including the Navy Achievement Medal as well as several meritorious mass. Also while in school John learned to play trombone earning first chair status in two city wide competitions. He also earned first chair after switching to the tuba. He has natural music abilities and also plays piano after studying under Carrie Fox.
