Biography

Burak Çevik is a filmmaker, producer and the founder of Fol Cinema Society, through which he has organized programs dedicated to experimental and art-house cinema. From 2018 to 2020, he taught non-fiction filmmaking at Istanbul Bilgi University. His films The Pillar of Salt (2018), Belonging (2019), and Forms of Forgetting (2023) had their world premieres at the Berlin International Film Festival and have since been screened internationally across more than 25 countries. Notable screenings include MoMA and the Lincoln Center's New Directors/New Films in New York, as well as the Sarajevo, Thessaloniki, São Paulo, Toronto, Jeonju, and Vancouver Film Festivals, Istanbul Modern Museum, and Cinéma du Réel.

His video work A Topography of Memory (2019) premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, was exhibited as a looped installation at Lincoln Center during the New York Film Festival, and was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Çevik has been awarded residencies at leading institutions such as MacDowell, Yaddo, the Nipkow Program, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), and the Bergman Estate. In 2022, he was selected for the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program and has since been based in Berlin, where he continues his artistic and curatorial practice.
