Cheikha Rimitti was born on May 8, 1923 in Tessala, Algeria. She was an actress and composer, known for Cheikha Rimitti, Nouar (Moi et mon chéri) (2006), Homeland (2013) and DéParts (2010). She died on May 15, 2006 in Paris, France.

Her last name, Rimitt, comes from a French joke, Remettez moi ça, which means "one more cup of wine please".

Her music was banned from Algerian radio and television, although she remained hugely popular with many Algerians
