- Hernán Lara Zavala was born on February 28, 1946 in Mexico City, Mexico. He died on March 15, 2025 in Mexico.
- In addition to his career as a writer and academic, he was also head of the General Directorate of Publications and Editorial Development of the UNAM.
- Throughout his career he received important recognitions such as the Latin American Colima Narrative Award, the José Fuentes Mares National Literature Award, the Elena Poniatowska Ibero-American Novel Award and the 2010 Royal Spanish Academy Award, among others.
- He studied Modern English Letters at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters and a postgraduate degree at the University of East Anglia in Cambridge, England. After a while, he returned to the university that formed him, where he taught since 1976.
