Biography

Karel Appel was born on April 25, 1921 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. He was a production designer, known for Mozart 22 (2006), L'art et les hommes (1955) and Of Beauty and Consolation (2000). He died on May 3, 2006 in Zürich, Switzerland.

Artist who founded the so-called "CoBrA" group in 1948 with Corneille, and Asger Jorn, the name taken from the first letter of each artist's home town (Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam). Among its members were Hugo Claus.
