Congressman and three time Presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas enjoys a national reputation as the premier advocate for liberty in politics today. Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives: Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the constitution. Dr. Paul is the author of several books, including "The Revolution: A Manifesto", "End the Fed", "Liberty Defined", "Challenge to Liberty", "The Case for Gold", and "A Republic, If You Can Keep It".

Although he is a Republican, he ran as a Libertarian candidate for President in 1988. He ultimately finished third in the popular vote (with 431,750 votes) behind Democrat Michael Dukakis and Republican George H.W. Bush (who won the election by a wide margin).
Earned the nickname "Dr. No," because of his constant votes against legislative proposals that he deems unconstitutional.
Was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 22nd district from January 1976 to January 1977 and January 1979 to January 1985. He was later elected to the state's 14th district, which includes an area along the Gulf Coast southwest of Houston, and has been in office since January 1997.
Is seeking the Republican nomination for the 2012 presidential election.
Served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s.

I have no problems with the theoretical position of the neo-cons to spread the goodness of America. But just not with force. We should spread it by setting a good example. Getting our house in order. Making sure civil liberties are defended here.
By the way, when I say cut taxes, I don't mean fiddle with the code. I mean abolish the income tax and the IRS, and replace them with nothing.
We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and over run by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with.
One of the reasons I think that we do such a poor job on protecting our borders is the fact that leaders on both sides of the aisle strongly support the notion that we should have a union, where you literally obliterate the borders and have the three countries become one and that to me is a lot different than being friends.
If you can't protect life, how can you protect liberty?
