Employee in the Brandenburg state parliament, 1998 employee of a member of the Bundestag.

Editor of the magazine "Berliner Republik", member of Arbeiterwohlfahrt, member of VfB Peine, TSV Bildung.

Joined the SPD in 1988, chairman of the Peine SPD town association, deputy chairman of the Peine SPD sub-district and the Braunschweig SPD district; secretary-general of the SPD of Germany since November 2005.
