- German writer, translator and publisher of Bulgarian descent.
- Fled Bulgaria and came to Germany with his family in 1971.
- As his father was offered a job in Kenya, he lived there from 1972 to 1977 and from 1981 to 1984.
- Has lived in Cape Town since 2003.
- Wrote several non-fiction and travel books about Africa, but is best known for his bestselling novel "Der Weltensammler" (The Collector of the Worlds, 2006), which brought him several awards.
