Biography

Ilija Trojanow was born on August 23, 1965 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He is a director and writer, known for The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner (2008), Vorwärts und nie vergessen - Ballade über bulgarische Helden (2007) and Menschenkinder (2013).

German writer, translator and publisher of Bulgarian descent.

Fled Bulgaria and came to Germany with his family in 1971.

As his father was offered a job in Kenya, he lived there from 1972 to 1977 and from 1981 to 1984.

Has lived in Cape Town since 2003.

Wrote several non-fiction and travel books about Africa, but is best known for his bestselling novel "Der Weltensammler" (The Collector of the Worlds, 2006), which brought him several awards.
