Barbara Gelb was born on February 6, 1926 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA. She was a writer, known for American Experience (1988), The Face of a Genius (1966) and Camera Three (1954). She was married to Arthur Gelb. She died on February 9, 2017 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.

Author, she was the niece of Jascha Heifetz and the stepdaughter of S.N. Behrman. She and Arthur Gelb are parents of Peter Gelb.

She was also a freelance reporter, writing profiles of Joseph Heller, George C. Scott, Mike Nichols, and Richard Burton, and articles on subjects including crime and Soviet dissidents.

She and her husband, Arthur Gelb, wrote the first full-scale biography of playwright Eugene O'Neill.
