  • Dominican writer, director and producer born in Santo Domingo. Graduated from The London Film School in 2001. Tonos started her career producing TV commercials and feature films for national and international companies, currently she works exclusively in cinema. Her film debut, Love Child / La Hija Natural (2011), won the Audience Choice Award at the 27th Chicago Latino Film Festival, Best Fiction Feature at the San José Film Festival, Audience Choice Award at the 4th Global Dominican Film Festival, among others. Her second feature Cristo Rey (2013) was Official Selection at Toronto Intl. Film festival 2013. Both films were Dominican Republic's Official Oscars Entry Her third film Juanita (2018) had Official Selections from the Miami Intl. Film Festival and HBO NY Latino Film Festival. As a producer, she ventured into the mystery genre with Jupía, selected for Blood Window Screenings at Ventana Sur 2020. Her 4th film A State of Madness / Mis 500 Locos (2020) was the Dominican Republic Official Oscar Entry 2021, this is Tonos' 3rd film selected to represent the Dominican Republic at the Oscars.

    Pioneer in the area of film co-productions in her country, having made co-productions with Spain, France, Puerto Rico, Haiti, among others. Co-founder of ADOCINE (Dominican Association of Film Industry Professionals). In February 2020 she was awarded the Medal of Cinematographic Merit, becoming the first woman in the Dominican Republic to receive such distinction.

    Her work has been characterized as a constant exploration of the Caribbean identity within the Latin context and for her firm belief in the potential these stories have to be of global impact.
