He has been to three Pro Bowls and was the best free-agent signing in Seahawks history, signing a six-year, $24 million contract in 1997. The Seahawks wanted to cut his pay, but the team and Brown couldn't agree on the right figure so he was released. He signed with The New England Patriots in May of 2005. He was released after the season.

With The New England Patriots in 2005, after several games of what was thought to be a mediocre performance at his new position, he spent most of the rest of the season only on special teams.

On October 12, 2006, He signed with The Pittsburgh Steelers. This will mark his second stint in Pittsburgh, where he played the first four seasons of his career, 1993-1996.

He was a second-round pick of the Steelers in 1993 and played four seasons with the team, notching 30 sacks in that stretch and earning one Pro Bowl berth. He then spent eight seasons, including two Pro Bowl years in Seattle, before the Seahawks released him after the 2004 campaign.
