Grammy-nominated and award-winning film director and producer Kirk Fraser is the President and CEO of May 3rd Films and owner of Camera, Lights and Grip, both subsidiaries of May 3rd Media Group. He began his career directing music videos for artists like Lil' Kim, Biz Markie, and Elephant Man.
Fraser's 2005 feature documentary, "The Life of Rayful Edmond: The Rise and Fall," garnered critical acclaim, landing him on the cover of The Washington Post and influencing the "American Gangster" television series. He went on to produce episodes of "American Gangster" for BET and collaborated with Lil' Kim on her reality series, "Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown," which became BET's highest-debuting series at the time.
In 2009, Fraser executive produced and directed ESPN's acclaimed "30 for 30" documentary, "Without Bias," which The New York Times hailed as "the most elegiac film in the 30 for 30 series." The film won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the American Black Film Festival, a Peabody Award, and was nominated for an Emmy.
Known for his attention to detail and innovative thinking, Fraser has collaborated with major brands like Verizon, Under Armour, PepsiCo, and Gatorade, including a documentary on tennis star Francis Tiafoe. His recent work includes the six-part documentary series "Naked Hustle" for AMC's UMC (Urban Movie Channel), "United We Stand" (2018), the story of Muhammad Ali's 1967 Summit, in partnership with IMG and LeBron James' Uninterrupted, "Basketball County: In The Water" (2019) with Kevin Durant's Thirty Five Media and Showtime, and "Tuskegee Airmen: Legacy of Courage" (2020) for the History Channel, executive produced and narrated by Robin Roberts.
In 2023, Fraser directed the three-part docuseries "Kings From Queens: The Run DMC Story," which premiered on Peacock in February 2024. The series chronicles the groundbreaking journey of the iconic hip-hop group from Hollis, Queens to global superstardom.
