Biography

Dave Ellis began his career in the video game industry in 1992 as a customer service rep at MicroProse Software in Hunt Valley, MD. He went on to work as a tester and test lead for several years before becoming a game designer and writer.

He has shipped over 30 games on 15 different platforms as a writer or designer (often as both). He has written the story and voiceover scripts for numerous licensed IPs for some of the biggest companies in the entertainment industry, including Cartoon Network, DreamWorks, Paramount, and Universal. His licensed game work includes such critically-acclaimed properties as Adventure Time, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Despicable Me, and Flushed Away. He has worked with some of the most respected animation writers in the industry, including Dwayne McDuffie, Charlotte Fullerton, and Dick Grunert, to craft stories and scripts that perfectly match the characters and settings of licensed video games to the television and film universes that inspired them.

Ellis has also written and designed a number of original IP games, two of which garnered awards. The script for Dead Head Fred won the first Writers Guild of America award for video game writing in 2008; and the comedy third-person shooter, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, won the 2009 Spike TV Video Game Award for Best Comedy Game.
