1972 to 1978 studied German and history for teaching at high schools at the University of Hamburg.

1980 to 1981 research stay in Denmark. 1985 to 1989 teacher of German and politics in adult education.

Member of ver.di, the women's garden in Hamburg, the breast cancer initiative in Berlin and FC St. Pauli.
