- Sandy Hoekstra is a Canadian actress, director and filmmaker. She is known for her direction and character roles in the Got Milf? Sketch Comedy Special and the award-winning documentary, Roslyn Frantz: Live.
She is equally drawn to authentic human stories and sharp comedic timing. Her directorial work spans across fiction and non-fiction storytelling and has been featured at international festivals and conferences from New Zealand to the Canadian Rockies. Sandy finds the humour in the uncomfortable moments and humanity in challenging ones.
Alongside her filmmaking career, Sandy is an academic who earned a Bachelor of Creative Arts degree from Yorkville University (Toronto) in 2025. She has also earned two diplomas, achieving Honours through Southern Alberta’s Institute of Technology’s (Calgary) Business Administration program, with a major in Marketing. Furthermore, Sandy was Valedictorian of her graduating class of 2023 with a diploma in Professional Filmmaking at the College for Arts and Technology (Kelowna) with an academic distinction in Producing. She was also honoured to be the recipient of the William F. White Vilmos Zsigmond Cinematography Scholarship in 2022. In 2019, she became a graduate of the Company of Rogues Acting Masterclass with a focus on Meisner, Uta Hagen and Stanislavski. Through her studies, Sandy has sharpened her approach to storytelling from both the human and technical perspectives.
Sandy has Frisian, Scottish and Scandinavian ancestry, and was born in Claresholm, Alberta to dairy farming parents.
