- He is the first indigenous president of Bolivia in that country's history. All his predecessors were of European ancestry.
- Born to Dionisio Morales Choque (died in 1983) and his wife Maria Mamami, he was one of seven children, of whom only three survived their childhood.
- After a contested election, he resigned on 10 November , 2019 and went into exile in Argentina. The presidential and general election was finally held on 18 October 2020 and his former minister of finance Luis Arce Catacora was elected in the first tour.
