Biography

Kelly L. King is an American writer, director, and producer working where large-scale physical production meets advanced visual technology. He came up inside the Disney machine, he mentored under director Kenny Ortega as his directing assistant. Working at the right hand of one of Disney's most prolific filmmakers taught him to operate at the center of studio-scale production and oversight.

King directed his first feature at twenty-five, a film he did not write or produce, which won several festival awards before a troubled distribution deal cut its run short. He took the lesson to heart and vowed not to take the director's chair again until he owned the material outright, as both writer and producer. The wait was deliberate.

In the years since, he pioneered the virtual-production era, building three massive LED volume stages in Utah, more LED panels than Coachella, for a major commercial campaign. His work lives where logistics meet spectacle: underwater effects, high-speed slow-motion, remote-triggered practical effects, and heavy VFX pipelines.

Working with the U.S. NAVY, King filmed alongside active Sailors in real operational environments, building a firsthand fluency in military culture, hardware, and the texture of service under pressure. He recently produced a $5M union feature demanding water stunts, extensive VFX, and sustained night work. As show runner and series director of YouTube Red's GameLab, his pilot drew nearly 100 million views, proof of an instinct for spectacle that connects at scale.
