Biography

Sérgio Graciano already has a long career in film and television. His first feature film was "Assim Assim" (2010). He spent two years in Angola where he was responsible for fiction at Semba Comunicação, and where he directed "Njinga - A Rainha de Angola" (2013), the most watched Angolan film ever. The film won two awards at the African Film Academy. This was followed by "Uma Vida à Espera" (2016), a film with which he won the Audience Award at the 8th Edition of FESTin - Festival de Cinema Itinerante de Língua Portuguesa. In 2017 he directed "Perdidos" a remake of "Armadilha em Alto Mar" the third most watched Portuguese film of the year. In 2018 he directed "Bloodlines" with Manuel Pureza. In 2020 and 2021 he directed "The impossibility of being alone" and "The sound that goes down to the earth" a film that was one of the finalists for the selection of the Portuguese representative for the Oscars in 2021, and had 9 nominations for the portuguese movie academy. I 2022 he directed "Salgueiro Maia - O Implicado", a film that was also one of the finalists for the selection of the Portuguese representative for the Oscars in 2022 and the third most watched Portuguese film of the year. In his award-winning career in television, the highlights are the International Emmy in the category of Best Telenovela with "Laços de Sangue" in 2011, and two Authors Awards, from the Portuguese Authors Society (SPA), in the category of Best Fiction Television , with "Conta-me como foi" in 2011 and 'O Último a Sair' in 2012. Also 'Maternidade' in the following year and 'País Irmão' in 2018 were distinguished by SPA with the nomination for this award. Already in the North American competition of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, of which Sérgio Graciano was part of the jury in the 2015, 2020 and 2021 edition. He directed a series called "Daughter of the Law", produced for RTP that is only available on Amazon Prime American. In the last two years he has directed six series: "A Generala" to OPTO and GloboPlay, "Chegar a casa" to RTP and Amazon Prime, "A Rainha e a Bastarda", "Auga Seca" to RTP and HBO MAX, "Da Mood" to RTP and more recently he did the first big portuguese production to GloboPlay, "Codex 632". His new feature film is called "O Meu Jardim"( in Post Production) and he is preparing is next feature film, "Os papeis do ingles" to Leopardo Filmes, a production company from one of the biggest producers in Europe, Paulo Branco who worked with David Cronenberg, Raúl Ruiz or Manoel de Oliveira.
