Biography

Stephen Herbert was a museum consultant and specialist in the origins of cinema. Involved in image projection for 50 years, he has a particular interest in Eadweard Muybridge and the 19th-century optical devices that first gave lifelike movement to sequence pictures.

He appeared in several films and television series talking about film history. He was also a freelance film consultant.

He was head of technical services at BFI (British Film Institute) Southbank studio in London, and also worked for the Museum of the Moving Image.
