Biography

Michael Thai is a Vietnamese American filmmaker whose work ranges from commercial hits in Vietnam to internationally distinguished festival films. Most recently, he directed the short film Raincoat (CGV, part of the omnibus feature B4S) and served as a consulting producer on Ky Nam Inn (TIFF '25 world premiere). As a writer, his screenplays have been recognized by the Academy Nicholl Fellowship, Austin Film Festival, Vietnam’s Golden Kite Awards, and the CineStory Foundation. Born in Germany, raised in California, and based in Ho Chi Minh City, Michael’s work is shaped by a sense of cultural fluidity and diasporic identity.
