- George Lamming was born on June 8, 1927 in Carrington, Barbados, British West Indies [now Barbados]. He was an actor, known for The New Caribbean (1969), Los hijos de Baraguá (1996) and Bookmark (1983). He was married to Nina Ghent. He died on June 4, 2022 in Bridgetown, Barbados.

- He worked at a boarding school in Trinidad, teaching English to Hispanic students, before moving to England in 1950. After working at a factory in London, he got a job at the BBC Colonial Service as an announcer for shows including "Caribbean Voices," an important platform for writers from the West Indies. He was a writer-in-residence at Brown, Duke, Penn, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. He moved back to Barbados in 1980.
