George Lamming(1927-2022)

He worked at a boarding school in Trinidad, teaching English to Hispanic students, before moving to England in 1950. After working at a factory in London, he got a job at the BBC Colonial Service as an announcer for shows including "Caribbean Voices," an important platform for writers from the West Indies. He was a writer-in-residence at Brown, Duke, Penn, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. He moved back to Barbados in 1980.
