Biography

  • Matteo Saradini is an Italian director, producer and colorist. Born and raised in Northern Italy, he studied film critique and Greek and Latin Theatre at the Catholic University of Brescia, Italy. During university he set out to self-finance his first feature film "Fear and Vengeance", an epic gangster film inspired by Homer's "Odyssey". After graduating in 2004, Saradini made his way to Rome where he had the opportunity to produce, shoot and direct "Blood Chronicle", a mockumentary inspired by Richard Brooks' "In Cold Blood". Shot entirely in one location, "Blood Chronicle" is the story of two burglars that break into an apartment taking a young student hostage in their attempt to escape after a robbery. This thrilling doc drama is based on true events and reenacted in the same house where the events took place. It was then purchased by Thunderball Films, LLC the same year. With increasing interest in his work, Saradini was asked by Italian/Swedish producer Antonio Russo Merenda to travel to Sweden to shoot and direct "Don't Shoot Now" a highly controversial documentary about the Beretta gun factory in Northern Italy later broadcaster on national Swedish television. Saradini made the move from Europe to North America to work in Los Angeles, where he met with various producers developing new projects. There he trained himself further and became proficient with different editing systems and cameras including new HD and digital technology, being a pioneer in using Red Cameras. Making a name for himself in Canada's film industry, Saradini continued to develop himself as an artist by producing a wide variety of work, from music videos to award-winning short films. This includes "M. Hood" (2009) and "A Brush of Red" (2009) which were both shown at the Cannes film market. He is director and creator of "Residenz", a sci-fi web-series launched in 2012 originally, one of the earliest example of choose-your-own-adventure web series featuring an elaborate technique of 3D mapping projection to visualize VFX in real time on set. In 2013 he moved to the US where he developed his skills in the DI Finishing department, especially Mastering, QC, Conform and Color. Since 2013 he worked on at least 70 titles helping them to finish for the big screen mainly with Blumhouse Productions; titles include Jordan Peele's 'Get Out', 'Happy Death Day', Leigh Whannell's 'The Invisible Man'. He continues to direct features as of today using his color grading expertise to his advantage in storytelling. One of his latest effort is the psychological thriller 'First House on the Hill' distributed by Indie Rights worldwide and currently streaming in 21 English speaking countries on Amazon Prime. He then directed 'Near Death' in his first collaboration with Carlo and Erin Carere. The short was selected by at least 20 International Festivals receiving praises for storytelling and visual aspects and was later purchased by Shorts TV and currently being broadcaster through North America in their Editor's Pick section. He is currently completing filming the swing dance themed noir film 'Apollo Jump' to be released later this year.
