Biography

  • Pakk Hui (he/him) is a Los Angeles-based composer who is best known for his cinematic blend of skillfully crafted melodies and emotive soundscapes. He has contributed music to nearly 400 episodes of television (including Showtimes' American Gigolo and the latest season of Amazon's hit show Reacher) as well as over a couple dozens of blockbuster films (such as Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultra). His most recent works include his award-winning scores to Dear Ernie and Roberta's Rules. His debut feature film SWAY (dir. Rooth Tang) was an official selection at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. The short film Tsuyako (dir. Hikari) had won over 30 awards from festivals all around the world.

Pakk's passion for exploring a wide spectrum of timbre, textures and melodies permeates his music with a unique and compelling voice. His dedication to capturing the core of the human experience makes him a natural storyteller. In 2021, Pakk was selected as one of eight composers to participate in the prestigious Universal Composers Initiative, NBCUniversal's one of a kind, career advancement program for underrepresented composers.

His first name is pronounced "PAHK", and last name is "HOO-way". He lives in Los Angeles with his husband, Will, and their miniature golden doodle named Daisy. Pakk is a proud member of the Academy of Television Arts & Science, Composers Diversity Collective, The Society of Composers & Lyricists, Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI) and the Recording Academy.
