Mini bio

  • Scott Richmond is well-known for his accomplishments in the music business, yet he brings the same hard-working creativity to movie production. Scott grew up in a Jewish household in Poughkeepsie, New York, residing with his mother and younger sister, while his father lived elsewhere, making occasional visits. Scott attended public schools at first, then private schools. He was close friends with Tasciotti, since they were about 5 years old. At this young age, they began making their plans for future success sitting in the sandbox. Scott was into alternative thinking, as his lifelong vegetarian lifestyle will attest. He was a virtuoso on the classical piano and violin, until he obtained one of the new, early model synthesizers. At age 9, his interest spontaneously shifted towards electronic music.

His successful DJ career was launched in the mid-80's, spinning new wave, house, industrial, and trance. He hosted popular radio shows on WVKR (Vassar College) and WDST (Woodstock, NY). He released several singles that became club favorites, including 'Hurling Your Bodies into the Void' and 'Keep on Climbing'. For a time, Scott lived with Tasciotti and Jay Schachter, operating a rowdy party-house. With the first generation of camcorders, they did a few amateur movies.

Scott went on attend S.U.N.Y. at Purchase College and then turned his focus to business. Starting on Aug. 22, 1992 with 'Sputnik I', he coordinated a legendary series of underground rave events. He was writing and editing for Net magazine and pulled off some of the biggest dance music events in the U.S. during the late 90s. From this wealth of experience in clubs, parties, and the rave scene, he had established the music distribution company - Satellite Records, which grew to be phenomenally successful and respected by DJ's the world over. Scott branched out with 3 record labels and in the midst of it, made time to help produce movies.

Scott was instrumental in Brooklyn, NY for the making of Protesters (2003) with Tasciotti. He also authorized the documentary of Satellite Records' evolution by the same producer.

At the writing, Scott is single, living and working in New York City as CEO of Satellite Records. His friends know him as a fun-loving, Sponge Bob fan, who can express many unusual noises, most notably the cackle of a hyena and the Scooby Doo voice.
