Ian Couch
Ian Couch was born in New Milford, Connecticut, USA in 1975. He grew up in a variety of residences, from the Bronx to Westchester County, New York, again in Connecticut and then upstate New York.

While Ian was a young child, his family joined a guru-based religious group with eclectic teachings, synthesized from Hindu, Buddhihst, and other sources. Some ideas were from famous artist, Nicholas Roerich. The religious practice involved, meditating, TM, and rituals featuring a gigantic, uncut crystal - from Venezuela. It was kept it in the middle of the group's mansion. This started in New York City until the crystal was moved to Hopewell Junction, New York.

The religious group also included, Neil Simon (playwright), Alan Arkin (actor) and his family, as well as many actors and actresses from Los Angeles. Ian Couch and his family were involved up until he was 16, at which point they separated from the group, as it fell into crisis. Shortly thereafter, the guru hung himself.

Ian's father, Joseph is an artist, photographer, and architect. He was estranged from Ian's life due to the detrimental influence of the religious group, with which he did not agree. Ian's mother, screen name Janet Damon, was performing as a film actress, comedian, and comedy writer before Ian's birth and becoming involved with the religious group. Since leaving the group, she worked on screenplays and collaborated with Alan Arkin on a play, which she wrote and he produced.

Ian has one older stepbrother - a computer programmer living on the West Coast; one older stepsister - an artist/musician; and one older sister who is closest to him in age and upbringing, who lives in upstate New York and works with horses as a masseuse. Ian has one younger brother, who lives with his father in the Southeast.

Ian graduated from Hampshire College in the 90s. His main creative pursuits are making electronic music and photography, which became his primary occupation since he was 16. His distinctive style is wispy, dreamy, fairy-tale imagery, occasionally with the use of infrared film. Ian favors 16mm film and uses several of his own film cameras.

The biggest direct influences on Ian were Alan Arkin and musician Donovan, as well as his mother's friend, musician Richie Havens. Ian was a big fan of Azalia Snail and he has always admired the work of Matt Dillon. Ian has the same photography agent as Billy Name.

Since 2005, Ian is collaborating with members of the Andy Warhol crew, Ultra Violet and Ivy Nicholson - on books, videos and other media. He appears in a film with Ivy's twins, Gunther Palmer and 'Penelope Palmer', which has been broadcast on cable.

Ian exhibits his photographs at various galleries and his short independent films have been screened privately. His work as a cinematographer is attached to the project of 'The Instant Messenger' movie. Previously on a Tasciotti production, he worked camera and acted in Protesters (2003).

His favorite pastimes are: to sleep in the woods and to go camping. During one full moon eclipse gathering in 1993, he met fellow artist, Tasciotti and filmmaker, Tasciotti. Subsequently, they explored the Catskill Mountains and utilized the resort of entertainer, Peg Leg Bates for their artistic projects and UFO searches with author/artist, 'Louis Acker'.

Ian enjoys traveling and he does it as much as he can. Significant travels include: Canada and Mexico in the 1990s and Japan in 2006.
