Jamie Stewart was born in 1972 in Northridge, California. He was the
front man for the band IBOPA (Indestructible Beat of Palo Alto) with
his father, successful record producer Michael Stewart. The band broke
up in 1999 with some members, including Jamie, forming Ten in the Swear
Jar. Ten in the Swear Jar broke up in 2000 and Stewart went on to form
his current music project, Xiu Xiu (derived from the Asian film Xiu
Xiu: The Sent-Down Girl).
In 2002, Jamie's father, Michael, killed himself and several Xiu Xiu songs since then have been written about his death.
