Mini bio

  • Father a lawyer, mother a homemaker. Both excellent human beings. One sister, one brother, both excellent human beings. Christian Kessler went through school and fell prey to the siren song of easy money (military service). After that he went straight to university and earned doodley-squat. At least he emerged with a degree in German and American literature, which will help him no end when it comes to earn good cash - hee-haw. His early cinematic experiences include having nightmares of Judy Garland when she strolled merrily along in The Wizard Of Oz. Got his first VCR at age 13 and immediately rented Dawn Of The Dead. Good choice. Joined a horror film club ("Evil Ed") and visited the Brussels Festival of Fantastic Cinema a few times. Met a guy from the Berlin-based mag "Splatting Image", for which he wrote for almost 15 years or so. During his 20s, he travelled all over Europe to make interviews with many of his heroes, like Jean Rollin, Enzo G. Castellari, Brigitte Lahaie and the like. His friend Peter Blumenstock helped him a lot. Peter and Frenchman Lucas Balbo were also the driving forces behind the book on Jess Franco, "Obsession". Christian later wrote a book on his own, "Das wilde Auge" ("The Savage Eye"), that sold out soon but didn't make him a rich man. A later book on Italian western movies, "Willkommen in der Hölle" ("Welcome To Hell"), was also well-received. His latest book on 70s US porn movies (featuring interviews with many luminaries) is as yet unreleased, as German publishers quite obviously shy away from bare facts. Had an early cameo in a semi-professional (but very funny) effort by Stephan Lenzen, Zander, and a starring role in the short movie Pein by Sven Berndt and Thomas Schweer. Apart from being a line producer on Jess Franco's Tender Flesh, he also contributed to the dialogue of Journey Into Bliss by Wenzel Storch, a filmmaker he really adores. Kessler was part of a punk rock band and now continues to sing in a formation that began as sort of a Presley cover band.
