The Turnwall
Turnwall is an American indie filmmaker known for his multidisciplinary work as a writer, director, producer, and cinematographer. His career spans narrative features, short films, documentaries, viral digital content, and large-scale media projects, reflecting a versatile creative voice shaped by an unconventional life path.

Born on an Indian Reservation in Montana on July 8, 1970, Turnwall was raised in Alaska before relocating to New York at age sixteen. He graduated from Green Meadow Waldorf School in 1988 and went on to serve eight years in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his military service, he entered the corporate world, developing marketing and corporate media for Merrimac Inc., where he produced videos and 3D animations.

In 1999, Turnwall left corporate work to pursue filmmaking full time, putting himself through college and earning a degree in Film & Television from New York University. While at NYU, he also studied 3D Modeling and Animation, expanding the technical foundation that would later inform his visual style. Following graduation in 2006, he worked as a screenwriter for Epiphany Storm Productions before moving to Los Angeles in 2012 to serve as a Director of Digital Media.

Turnwall’s filmography includes a wide range of independent and commercial projects. His editorial and cinematography work on 171 Starbucks earned national attention, including two appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. His viral short Mark Lives in IKEA generated more than 163 million positive media impressions, while Mark on AirTran achieved recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records. Additional credits include New York City 2020 Vision, San Diego 2020 Vision, Bent on Conquest (starring Marc Thompson of Star Wars fame), and numerous digital media projects for Metro, HOPE worldwide, and the Los Angeles International Church of Christ.

After years working across New York and Los Angeles, Turnwall returned to Alaska, where he now resides in the Matanuska Susitna Valley. From his independent studio overlooking the region, he continues to develop and produce original feature films and digital media projects, bringing together his background in narrative storytelling, cinematography, and visual effects.
