"In a varied and challenging competition that looks towards the subject of ART ON FILM for its essential selection criteria, we unanimously chose a work that vehemently argues for ART AS FILM. In an oft-hilarious hallucinatory reverie that is equal parts post-colonial road trip and bad acid drug trip. This film capably explodes the fiction / non-fiction divide with an alarming self-consciousness and an ever more surprising degree of sincerity. With a mad mix of compellingly fucked-up characters, an array of expertly wielded lo-fi and hi-fi video cameras and a dynamic approach to sound-in-cinema. The director has produced a totally pleasurable and radically complicated mess of a film one that convincingly and capably achieves its own thesis to create a piece of art drawn from tens of thousands of years of imagination. We can't wait to do Iboga and we can't wait to see what Nik Fackler make next. The jury prize goes to SICK BIRDS DIE EASY, dir. Nicholas Fackler."
